Common questions
How far ahead should I apply for a visa?
It depends on the destination. E-visas and electronic travel authorisations are typically approved within minutes to 72 hours. Standard tourist visas through embassies usually take 5 to 15 working days. For popular destinations during peak season, allow 4 to 8 weeks and book any biometric appointment well in advance.
Do children need their own visa?
Yes. In almost all cases every traveller including infants needs their own visa and their own passport. Some destinations also require additional documentation such as birth certificates or a notarised consent letter when a child travels with only one parent.
What is an eTA and how is it different from a visa?
An eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is an entry requirement used by countries like Canada, Australia and several EU nations. It is not a visa but an online pre-travel registration, usually approved in minutes and valid for multiple trips over several years. It is simpler and cheaper than a full visa but still mandatory. You cannot board your flight without it.
What happens if my visa is refused?
A visa refusal does not automatically prevent future applications but it must be disclosed on future visa forms for most countries. Common reasons for refusal include insufficient funds, incomplete documentation, a prior overstay, or travel history that raises concerns. If refused, read the refusal letter carefully. Many decisions can be successfully appealed or reapplied with stronger documentation.
